Produced for a reported $110 million,The Patriotjust managed to break even at the global box office,almost doubling its investment with a $215 million global total. Split between a domestic haul of $113 million and a further $102 million earned from overseas markets,The Patriotisn’t Gibson’s finest hour financially, performing the worst out of a trio of movies from the same year. Earning just $12 million more thanThe Patriotwas Aardman Animation’s brilliant, Oscar-winningChicken Run, with the actor’s highest-performing movie of 2000 coming in the form of the romantic comedyWhat Women Want, directed by the greatNancy Meyers.
