About a decade ago,Studio Hibariproduced the bingeworthy seriesAssassination Classroom, which ran for only a year, comprising two seasons and forty-seven episodes. The anime remains a huge favorite to many, and we have the brilliant team behind it to thank, including Studio Hibari. Most recently, the production company has been attached to another promising project,the upcomingTougen Ankiadaptation, which was announced in May 2024 and, as confirmed by What’s on Netflix, will debut onNetflixthis July.
Tougen Ankiwill be available to stream on Netflix from Friday, July 11, joining a bunch of similarlyentertaining showscoming to the platform next month. The anime is an upcoming licensed weekly Japanese series adapted from the manga seriesTougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood, written and illustrated byYura Urushibara. In addition to Netflix, other services share the anime’s release, includingCrunchyrollandPrime Videoin the U.S., and it’s worth highlighting that Netflix Japan will not carryTougen Anki.

It’s only been a year since the new anime series was created, as earlier in May 2024, it was announced that the manga would receive aTV adaptation.Ato Nonakaserves as director withHiroyuki Hashimotoas assistant director, whileYukie Sugawarahandles series composition and scripts. Character design is byRyoko Amisakiwith art direction byScott MacDonald, music composition byKohta Yamamoto, and music production byPony Canyon. The opening theme song isThe Oral Cigarettes’ “Overnight”, while the ending theme song is “What is Justice?”, performed by the Japanese rock band,Band-Maid.

What to Expect in ‘Tougen Anki’
InTougen Anki, a rivalry spanning a thousand years pits the careless and reckless “Oni” against the “Momotarou,” the protectors of humanity. According to its description, the bloodlines of Oni and Momotaro have been passed down among certain humans for generations, and long ago, the Oni, aware of their own ferocity,lived in seclusion.However, their peace was shattered by an invasion led by Momotaro.
