After a super-sized and highly praised first season, fans ofFrieren: Beyond Journey’s Endare more than ready for new episodes of the hit anime series. DuringAnime Expo, the series had its own panel featuring the voice of Stark (Chiaki Kobayashi), series producerYuichiro Fukushi, and composerEvan Call, and fans received a little treat: the very first teaser trailer for Season 2! The show is set to return in January 2026, and you can check out the trailer in this article.
At this point, it’s a little early to tell the story arcs thatFrieren: Beyond Journey’s EndSeason 2 will cover. We also don’t know if the new season will be aslong as the previous one, but for now it’s just great to know that the series is coming back sooner rather than later. Once again, we will followthe title character(voiced byAtsumi Tenezakiin the original Japanese and byMallorie Rodakin theEnglish dub) as she embarks on different adventures and makes new friends as she lives her very long life.

Season 2 may also be a little different in terms of voice acting, because earlier this week Tenezaki announced that there’s a chance thatshe will not returnto the series due to health concerns. As the actor focuses on recuperating, we don’t know if the reduction in her workload includesFrieren— the voice actor also works on several other high-profile anime series, includingThe Apothecary DiariesandDr. Stone. In any case, we will know which projects she decides to stick with in the coming months.
Why Is ‘Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End’ So Popular?
The anime series subverts several tropes of thefantasy genre, starting with its very first episode. In it, we catch up with Frieren and her three friends Himmel (Nobuhiko Okamoto/Clifford Chapin), Eisen (Christopher Guerrero/Yōji Ueda), and Heiter (Jason Douglas/Hiroki Tōchi) as they finish a massive quest — but we never see it. Instead,we see the aftermath of their journeyand witness the passage of time through the eyes of an elf, meaning that the protagonist has towatch everyone around her getting oldas she barely ages a day.
Not by chance,Frieren: Beyond Journey’s Endhas been nominated for numerous awards, including Anime of the Yearat this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series boasts a perfect 100% score, meaning it’s definitely one of the anime series that you don’t want to miss.
