ThePrometheussequel that was once known asAlien: Paradise Lostbefore undergoing another change to becomeAlien: Covenantmay have secured its female lead.Katherine Waterstonis being reported as starring oppositeMichael Fassbender, who returns as the android David after surviving the events of the 2012 space adventure,Prometheus. Elizabeth Shaw, as played byNoomi Rapace, also survived that picture but if Waterston’s casting is any indication, this film won’t be following Shaw’s story, at least not in the main plot.
The Wrapreported that Waterston has been cast as the female lead ofAlien: Covenant, but other plot details are scarce at this point. This film will serve as an on-screen reunion for Waterston and Fassbender; she played Chrisann Brennan, the mother of Steve Jobs' first child Lisa Brennan-Jobs inDanny Boyle’sSteve Jobs. Waterston has been making her appearances on screen since the mid-2000s, turning in roles inTony Gilroy’sMichael Clayton,Jake Schreier’sRobot & Frank, andPaul Thomas Anderson’sInherent Viceto name a few.

And while Waterston’s star is certainly on the rise with this new casting announcement, she’ll get a chance to introduce herself to a whole new set of fans when her role of Porpentia Goldstein inDavid Yates’Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themis unveiled late next year. Without giving anything away, let’s just say that the character is quite the important one as far as that film’s protagonist is concerned.
Here’s the synopsis that’s being reported forAlien: Covenantso far:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world – whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
