Andor’s universally acclaimed second season just wrapped, and the spark of rebellion is burning brighter than ever.Tony Gilroy’s series starringDiego Lunaalready set a record last month by becomingthe highest-ratedStar Warsproject ever to hit the screen, somehow improving on what was already seen as a standout first run in 2023 with a 97%Rotten Tomatoesscore. Now, the adventures of Cassian Andor have gained sole membership in a very exclusive television club. OnIMDb, it is now the first television series ever to have a run of five consecutive episodes with user scores of 9.5 or above. Of those episodes, “Who Are You?,” whichoffered a chilling depiction of the Ghorman massacre, currently holds the highest rating of 9.8.

With history made, it’s safe to say that Season 2 lived up to the hype from critics and the supreme confidence from Disney. Even in a year that has thus far included popular, high-profile hits likeSeveranceSeason 2,The Last of UsSeason 2, andThe Studio,Andorstands comfortably alone. For comparison’s sake, theAdam Scottsci-fi series only had one episode with a 9.5 score in its much-lauded second outing, while HBO’s video game adaptation starringBella Ramseyhas yet to crack anything above that mark halfway through its sophomore run. The red-hotStudio, too, has maxed out at a 9 with only one episode to go in theSeth Rogencomedy. It’s unheard of to have an audience so consistently impressed by a show, thoughStar Warshas flirted with this feat before. BeforeAndor,Star Wars: The Clone Warswas the gold standard for small-screen adventures in a galaxy far, far away, yet it came just one episode shy, with the final four episodes of Season 7 never falling below a 9.7 score. More recently,The Mandalorianalso had a respectable run at the end of Season 2, topping out at a 9.8 with its finale.

Season 1 ofAndor, too, doesn’t hold a candle when comparing IMDb scores. While ratings are strong overall, and the season boasts a similarly impressive Certified Fresh score of 96%, only one episode crossed that 9.5 threshold — “One Way Out.” That iconic episode, depicting Cassian and his fellow inmates staging a prison break from Narkina 5 and forever immortalizingAndy Serkis’s inspiring inmateKino Loy, was widely viewed as a highlight that capped off a three-episode arc showing the horrors of an Imperial prison. It’s also a testament to how Season 2 built upon the foundation Gilroy had set and, ultimately, how the series provideda fitting, emotional end to Cassian’s storyin the eyes of critics and audiences alike that finally linked up withRogue One: A Star Wars Story.
