When people talk about movies that are “forgotten,” they’re probably referring to titles likeSabotage. Starring a massively talented cast, the film was directed byDavid Ayerand released theatrically in 2014. In fact, Ayer was coming off of the fantasticEnd of Watch, and he’d go on to direct the World War II dramaFuryand the controversial DC Extended Universe blockbusterSuicide Squad.Sabotagewas headlined byArnold Schwarzenegger, one year before he made his comeback to the Terminator franchise withTerminator Genisys. And yet,the film earned terrible reviews and bombed at the box office. However, over a decade after its disappointing theatrical run,Sabotageis witnessing success on the domestic home video charts.

According toFlixPatrol, it wasthe fifth-most-watched film on Prime Video on August 5.Sabotagetrailed the holdover hitHeads of State, which took the number four spot, behindWicked,Uncharted, and the critically panned newWar of the Worldsadaptation. Also featuring post-AvatarSam Worthington, post-Iron ManTerrence Howard,Joe Manganiello,Josh Holloway, andMireille Enos, the film wasproduced on a reported budget of $35 million, butgrossed only $22 million worldwide. It also earned poor reviews, and is currently sitting at a 21% score onRotten Tomatoes. The critics' consensus on the aggregator website reads, “Sabotageboasts one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s finer post-political performances, but it’s wasted in a movie driven by grueling violence that punishes seemingly without purpose.”

Most interestingly, however, themovie’s plot was inspired byAgatha Christie’s seminal mystery novel And Then There Were None. Ayer had a turbulent experience onThe Suicide Squad, which was wrenched away from him in post-production and re-edited by the studio. He had a difficult few years after that, but bounced back in grand fashion with two back-to-backJason Stathamvehicles, released in successive years. In 2024, Ayer debutedThe Beekeeper, which grossed over $160 million globally. Earlier this year, he releasedA Working Man, which made nearly $100 million globally.

He’s now working onHeart of the Beast, an action-adventure film that signals his comeback to the big leagues. The movie is headlined by a post-F1Brad Pitt, and will presumably be released next year. Pitt and Ayer previously worked together onFury, which remains one of their most acclaimed films. you may watchSabotageon Prime Video in the U.S., and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
