On May 31, Netflix announced the official premiere date of thisBen AffleckandMatt Damon-starring crime thriller, and sadly, it’s not anytime soon. TitledThe RIP, the film was originally scheduled to debut sometime this fall, but Digital Spy can confirm thatit will now be released on June 21, 2025. The news was first shared atTUDUM, where the streamer also debuted a sneak peek. Co-starring with the iconic duo inThe RIPareTeyana Taylor,Catalina Sandino Moreno,Sasha Calle, Steven Yeun,Nésto Carbonell,Scott Adkins,Kyle ChandlerandLina Esco.

Written and directed byJoe Carnahan,The RIPcenters on a team of Miami police officerswho discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house. Upon discovering the money, trust among the cops begins to fray, and as outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question, including who they can rely on. The film will be produced byArtists Equity, the artist-led studio that Damon and Affleck founded in 2022, which most recently was attached toThe Accountant 2andJennifer Lopez’sKiss of the Spider Woman.

Speaking about the inspiration behindthe upcoming Netflix moviewith TUDUM, Carnahan revealed a profoundly personal experience that his friend went through, both as a father and as “head of tactical narcotics for the Miami Dade police department.” He added:

“It’s inspired in part by his life and then, by my enduring love for those classic ‘70’s cop thrillers that really valued the character and interpersonal relationships and became touchstones of that era — films likeSerpicoandPrince of The Cityand more recently,Michael Mann’sHeat.”

What Else Have Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Collaborated on?

Way before the longtime friends created Artists Equity, they worked on multiple projects together right from high school. In 1997, Affleck and Damon first gained recognition after winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay forGood Will Hunting, which they wrote and starred in together. They have remained close since then, and to date, they’ve collaborated on a total of fourteen films, many of which have been praised by fans and critics.
