Filmingofficially got underwaythis week onCaptain Marvel, and we still haven’t gotten an official look at starBrie Larsonin her superhero costume. However, that didn’t stopAvengers: Infinity WarandAvengers 4directorsThe Russo Brothersto take to Twitter to share a piece of fan art that is apparently director-approved. This will no doubt ignite more speculation about Captain Marvel’s potential appearance in next month’sInfinity War, as rumors were that Larson would make her debut as Captain Marvel in the thirdAvengersmovie. The latest is that Captain Marvelisn’tinCaptain Marvel, but you’re able to probably count on an appearance inAvengers 4asCaptain Marvelopens in theaters two months before thatInfinity Warfollow-up.
Captain Marvel is a character that Marvel Studios has been wanting to bring to the screen for a long time now, and this film will mark the studio’s first ever female-led superhero movie. They landed Oscar-winner Larson for the role of an Air Force pilot named Carol Danvers who gains superpowers after getting caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

The major point of interest forCaptain Marvel, at least for me, is that it’s the MCU’s first prequel. The story takes place in the 1990s, which provides the opportunity to have some major revelations for the Marvel Cinematic Universe story we think we know.Samuel L. Jacksonco-stars in the film as a two-eyed Nick Fury andJude Lawis onboard to play Danvers’ superhero mentor, but the film will also be bringing backClark Greggas Agent Coulson andLee PaceandDjimon HounsouasGuardians of the Galaxybaddies Ronan the Accuser and Korath, respectively.
This fan art is actually pretty cool, although it’s still frustrating that Marvel hasn’t released an official image of the costume yet. We’ve seen plenty of crappy set photos, and that does the movie and the character no favors. Unofficial set photos from bad angles are a terrible way to first introduce a new superhero suit, since the finished film not only reflects professional lighting and photography, but also color-correction in post-production. Here’s hoping Marvel gets crackin' on sharing an official image sooner rather than later.
