Disney-Marvel is just beginning to ramp up their marketing machine forCaptain Marvel, roughly six months ahead of its highly anticipated release date. The first solo female superhero film for the MCU will be led byBrie Larson. But don’t get your hopes up for the title hero to smash up Thanos in a follow-up toAvengers: Infinity War; this piece is a bit of a prequel, taking place in the 1990s and finding the half-human, half-Kree warriorfully in control of her incredible powers. And as new images confirm,Captain Marvelwill put those powers to good use far from Earth.
Oscar-winner Larson is joined bySamuel L. JacksonandClark Greggas S.H.I.E.L.D. members Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, both of whom will be getting a one-of-a-kind digital de-aging treatment that only Marvel Studios Spa can pull off; you can see the rejuvenated Jackson in a new image below. Other familiar faces returning here areLee Paceas Ronan, who also pops up in a behind-the-scenes image, andDjimon Hounsouas Korath. The cast also includesLashana LynchandGemma Chan, who make their first appearances in the new images as well, along withBen Mendelsohn,Jude Law,Algenis Perez Soto,Rune Temte, andMcKenna Grace.

Captain Marvelis set for a July 17, 2025 release.Anna BodenandRyan Fleck(Mississipi Grind) direct from a script byMeg LeFauve(Inside Out),Nicole Perlman(Guardians of the Galaxy),Geneva Robertson-Dworet(Tomb Raider),Liz Flahive&Carly Mensch(GLOW), as well as Boden and Fleck.
Check out the new images below, courtesy ofEWobviously, starting with the Larson-specific looks and then moving into the supporting cast of characters:

MeetStarforce, the elite military team on the Kree planet of Hala described by the directors as “the SEAL Team Six of space.” In addition to Carol Danvers, its members include Korath (Hounsou) andMinn-Erva(Chan).
Law playsSpace Dumbledorethe Starforce commander and mentor to Carol. In Law’s own words:

“These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she has to learn how to control. That’s a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one’s emotions and to use your powers wisely.”
Expect plenty of 90s references.
A long time coming, the Marvel Comics’ notorious baddies the Skrulls finally make their appearance in the MCU. Mendelsohn plays their leader, Talos, seen here in his Skrull form and below in his human disguise. No telling yet if he’stamed or untamed.
When Mendelsohn’s Talos goes undercover as a human, it’s to work within S.H.I.E.L.D., an organization that’s had a long history of ineffective vetting of employees.

Hounsou’s Korath and Pace’s Ronan the Accuser return, but they debuted inGuardians of the Galaxy;this movie actually takes place well before that. InCaptain MarvelRonan is not yet an outcast extremist, but a high-ranking member of Kree society.
Jackson’s ninth appearance as Nick Fury comes with a facelift and a demotion to S.H.I.E.L.D. desk jockey. Not only has he yet to meet any superheroes, he has the use of both of his eyes for once. Time will tell just how he meets his first superhero (perhaps Carol Danvers?) and if that altercation had something to do with him losing his eye…

Newcomer Lashana Lynch stars as Maria Rambeau, one of Carol’s oldest friends who’s an ace Air Force pilot with the call sign “Photon,” and a single mother to a young daughter. If you think the character will somehow tie in to Marvel Comics’Monica Rambeau, you might be right.
Keep an eye out (Nick Fury pun!) for more fromCaptain Marvelin the months ahead, and in the meantime, check out our recent coverage:
