Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection

Through seven episodes,Dexter: Resurrectionhas been filled with twists at every turn. Initially, the twist was that Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) didn’t die when his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott), shot him in the chest at the end ofDexter: New Blood. Then came another when Harrison killed a criminal, only for his dad to track him down to help him. That led to one of the biggest twists of all, with Dexter starting to feel genuine emotions, from fear of rejection to love for his child.

There have been some other twists too in Dexter’s side hobby. He discovered that there was a serial killer club in New York City run by billionaire Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage). That led to him developing feelings for Mia (Krysten Ritter), a serial killer known as Lady Vengeance who only took down men who sexually assaulted women.

However, when Mia revealed to Dexter that she also enjoyed killing innocent people, he framed her for Harrison’s crime, leading to his new friend landing in jail. From there, Prater’s assistant, Charley (Uma Thurman), had Mia killed in her cell, with it made to look like a suicide. That should have been the end of her story, butin a recent interview with Collider,Krysten Ritter said that we may not have seen the last of her character. IsDexter: Resurrectionsetting us up for the biggest twist of all?

Dexter Framed Lady Vengeance for Harrison’s Crime

It’s safe to say that Dexter Morgan doesn’t have good luck with women. Although good-natured Rita (Julie Benz) started as part of Dexter’s mask of normalcy, he developed enough feelings for her that they got married and had a son they named Harrison. Tragically,Dexter’s secret life ended up getting her killed at the end of Season 4. There was also the terrifying serial killer Lila (Jaime Murray), who Dexter had to put down in Season 2, and Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski), another serial killer whom Dexter fell for in the latter seasons. She made it out alive, taking Harrison with her when Dexter faked his death to become a lumberjack, butNew Bloodrevealed that she had since died of cancer.

InDexter: Resurrection, Dexter wants to stay focused on saving Harrison, buthe gets sidetracked by Leon Prater’s serial killer social club. He can’t resist meeting others just like him, so he becomes involved with the group while pretending to be the true serial killer that Prater had invited. Dexter is intrigued by these people, but he won’t get attached. They’re serial killers after all, and meant for his table, not friendship. But then he meets Mia.

Mia at first comes across as a dark avenger like Dex, and he’s fascinated. She kills because her mom’s boyfriend sexually assaulted her little sister when they were kids. Now she hunts down men just like him. Dexter tries to emotionally stay detached, but with his new feelings,he finally gives in and asks Mia on a date. That’s when things go wrong, asMia opens up about her joy of killing innocent people, too. Dexter’s code won’t let him ignore this. He can’t bring himself to kill her, so he does the next best thing and frames her for the murder Harrison committed. With her now in jail, that problem is seemingly solved, and Dexter can move on.

Krysten Ritter Hinted to Collider That Mia Could Return

Mia was in jail and taken off the table as a character, but she still had one supposed last chapter. When Charley visited her, what happened next could have gone a few different ways. Mia could have told her about her suspicions about the new guy in the club. Perhaps Charley could have found a way to get her out of jail. Or, what seemed most likely, Mia was going to die. The last option is exactly what happened, withCharley paying a jail guard to shut down the cell block’s cameras, then kill Mia, and making it look like she had taken her own life. Lady Vengeance was now gone forever, but a new interview with Collider showed that we shouldn’t say goodbye just yet.

In an interview with Collider’sTania Hussain, it was brought up to Ritter how great a character Mia was and how it was sad to see her die. To that, Ritter replied, “Well, I wouldn’t count me out yet.” She continued later, saying, “I love the twist that she’s not what she seems. For me, this role was absolute candy, and I had so much fun doing it. So, we’ll see.Maybe it’s not the end of this character. We’ll see.”

Just what the heck is that supposed to mean?! The last time we saw Mia, she was hanging from the ceiling of her jail cell. So how could a dead woman return from the grave? Dexter Morgan might keep finding ways not to die, but the Dexter franchise has never been about the supernatural. If Ritter’s teasing is a hint of Mia’s comeback, something more complicated is going on.

Are Mia and Charley Working Together on ‘Dexter: Resurrection’?

Everything is going too well for Dexter inDexter: Resurrection. Yeah, Angel Batista (David Zayas) is out there trying to catch him, but when isn’t someone trying to ruin his fun? Something big has to come in the final episodes to shake things up.There’s the possibility that the series could go for the jugular and kill off Harrison, but that feels too dark, even for the Dexter world. There is also this underlying conversation about the New York Ripper, a killer who has never been caught, and who Prater was unable to identify for his club. Are we about to meet him?

Dexter encountering the next big bad that he has to take down seems the likeliest next twist, but Ritter’s response to our interview opens up the possibility ofDexter: Resurrectionpreparing us for its shock twist of the season:Lady Vengeance isn’t dead. There is an explanation for this that would make sense beyond shock value. Mia is an intuitive woman who should be able to figure out that Dexter is the one who framed her. She also may have been able to pick up on him, not being who he said he was. We never got to see her private chat with Charley. Did they talk about Mia’s suspicions, leading to Charley having Mia’s death faked so she could get her out of jail to watch Dexter and potentially take him down?

Dexter: Resurrection’s biggest casting choice this year was arguably Uma Thurman as Charley, but outside of being Prater’s right-hand woman and looking glum, she hasn’t had much to do. Why would the series cast such a huge star, and why would she agree to the role if there wasn’t something meatier coming for the character?

Leon Prater is too fascinated by Dexter to see what he is doing, but Charley has often been shown eyeing him suspiciously. If she has figured out the truth about the new member of the club, letting Lady Vengeance out of her cage to deal with him is one possible way to get rid of him.Dexter Morgan is already suspicious of the news that Mia took her own life. The truth might be more shocking than he realizes, and it could spell big trouble for his future.
