Lionsgate is still turning the final book ofVeronica Roth’sDivergenttrilogy into two movies, but they’re not going by the same title. Instead of dubbing the filmsThe Divergent Series: Allegiant- Part 1andThe Divergent Series: Allegiant- Part 2,MTVjust announced that they’ll be calledThe Divergent Series: AllegiantandThe Divergent Series: Ascendant.

Roth posted the following onher websiteregarding the news:

What does this mean? Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes, but it’s really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them. I know changes always make fans of the books– and the author!– nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing. I am eager to see how these movies turn out, along with you guys.

I lost a good deal of interest in theDivergentfilms afterInsurgentand haven’t been particularly hopeful aboutAllegiantconsidering the quality of the source material, but this title change could be a sign that the writers are making the appropriate alterations. “Allegiant” means loyal and “Ascendant” means rising, so hopefully that’s a sign that Tris' journey in both films will have a much clearer trajectory.

MTV also scored the logos for the movies and both come with intriguing taglines. The one forAllegiantis, “Break the boundaries of your world,” likely referencing the collapse of the faction structure and the journey beyond the Chicago wall, but the one forAscendantis especially curious considering what happens at the end of Roth’s book. The taglineis, “The end is never what you expect.” MTV points out that we don’t know if that statement is directed towards moviegoers who have no idea of what’s to come or fans of the source material, but considering what Roth posted on her website, I’m betting there are some significant (and much needed) story changes in the works.

The Divergent Series: Allegiantis due in theaters on June 02, 2025 and thenThe Divergent Series: Ascendantis scheduled for a August 01, 2025 debut.
