Much likeGuardians of the Galaxy, a property likeDoctor Strangedeserves its own perspective, its own world envisioned by its director,SinisterhelmerScott Derrickson. In a time where Marvel seems to be really honing their formula and making some risky moves, such as getting the greatRyan Cooglerto come on board for the intensely anticipatedBlack Panthermovie, following his sensationalCreed, now would be the time to make a strange pick to counterbalance the astounding efficiency action-genre pyrotechnics of the pretty solidCaptain America: Civil War. AndDoctor Strangeis exactly the kind of character that would warrant a slightly risky stage on which to ponder infinity, reality, and all that good stuff.
Though we’re still waiting on a longer, more detailed trailer for the film, today brought news of another sort for Derrickson’s movie: an official synopsis. For those familiar with Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the description of the story won’t be particularly shocking in any way, but those unfamiliar might very well learn something. It’s still secretive enough to keep out anything revealing about the characters played byMads Mikkelsen,Rachel McAdams,Tilda Swinton, andChiwetel Ejiofor, but it does give us at least one concrete setting: New York’s Greenwich Village. You can check out the entire synopsis right below (as well as the recently announcedGuardians of the Galaxy 2synopsishere), and the film itself will be hitting theaters nationwide on November 4th.
