Oscar-nominated screenwriterDrew Goddard(The Martian) is set to adaptNick Drnaso’s acclaimed graphic novelSabrinawith an eye toward directing the project for New Regency and RT Features, Collider has learned.
New Regency will financeSabrina, which Goddard will produce along with RT’sRodrigo Teixeiraand New Regency’sArnon Milchan.

The film follows a man whose girlfriend, Sabrina, goes missing, prompting him to live with his old friend – an Air Force surveillance expert who is dealing with his own failed marriage. After a grisly videotape is anonymously sent to news outlets, Sabrina’s disappearance goes viral. As the 24-hour news cycle and social media take hold of the story, the two men are targeted by vitriolic conspiracy theorists who threaten their sense of the truth and their faith in each other.
Drnaso’s graphic novel was published in May 2018 by Drawn & Quarterly. In July 2018,Sabrinabecame the first graphic novel to be long-listed for the Man Booker Prize.Sabrinaalso madeThe New York Times' “100 Notable Books of the Year,“The Guardian’s “Best Books of 2018,” NPR’s “Best Books of 2018,”The Atlantic’s “19 Best Books of 2018,” and was praised byThe New Yorkerand championed by authorZadie Smith. Goddard’s past credits include the TV seriesThe Good Place,Daredevil, andDefenders. He was also nominated for an Oscar for writingThe Martian, based on the novel byAndy Weir. Goddard most recently wrote, directed, and producedBad Times at the El Royale. He’s represented by UTA, which also reps Drnaso.
