Dune: Prophecyis now more than halfway through its first season after the release ofSunday’s Episode 4, and the show has been sitting comfortably atop the Max streaming charts since its premiere. Other shows in the Max top 10 includeCreature Commandos, the debut DCU project fromJames Gunnwith a strong 94% from critics and a 79% from audiences onRotten Tomatoes, as well asSomebody Somewhere, which earned a perfect 100% score from critics and a 94% rating from audiences on the aggregate site.
Dune: Prophecyfinding streaming success despite its lower Rotten Tomatoes score isn’t entirely shocking;Dunehas become one of the biggest names in the sci-fi world over the last few years with the release ofDune: Part One, which took home six Academy Awards, andDune: Part Two, which is expected to be a major Oscar contender after grossing more than $700 million at the worldwide box office this year. TheDunename is enough to get many people to click on something, even if they have no clue what it is. People who are unfamiliar with when the series takes place could also be waiting for a potential cameo for someone from theDunemovies, completely unaware thatDune: Prophecytakes place 10,000 years beforeDune: Part One, I.E. no one from a prior movie is likely showing up anytime soon.
