WhenFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwaldhits home video in a few short weeks, fans will be treated to a some new footage they didn’t see in theaters. Not only that, but the deleted scenes have been put back into the film, resulting in a fully fledgedFantastic Beasts 2extended cut.
This isn’t the first time a film from theHarry Potteruniverse has gotten an extended cut on home video. The first twoPotterfilms got “extended editions” on DVD and eventually Blu-ray, owing to directorChris Columbus’ aim to capture as much book material on film as possible. But beyond that, while the TV version ofGoblet of Firefeatures a song that wasn’t in the theatrical cut, the otherPotterfilms simply included deleted scenes on the Blu-rays and not as part of a new, extended cut of the film.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwaldhits Digital HD on February 15th and 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on March 12th, at which point the extended cut of the film will be available. This new cut includes seven minutes of footage that wasn’t in the theatrical cut, and indeed during the press tour the cast wasn’t shy about revealing that there was plenty of footage shot for the film that didn’t make it into the movie. Fans will no doubt be curious to see what this entails, and if it further sheds light on some of those major reveals late in the movie.
The home video release also includes over an hour of bonus features, including featurettes that delve into Dumbledore, the return to Hogwarts, andJ.K. Rowlingherself.
