What Is ‘Cold Slither’?
In the 1985G.I. Joeepisode “Cold Slither,” the subversive terrorist organizationCobra goes bankrupt, thanks to its frequent defeats by the intrepid G.I. Joe team. Searching for an alternative source of revenue, Cobra Commander comes up with one of his strangest schemes yet:He forms the Dreadnoks, a collection of oddball mercenaries led by the shapeshifting Zartan, into a rock band dubbed Cold Slither. Cold Slither recorded a hit single (confusingly, also titled “Cold Slither”) penned by Cobra-allied arms dealer Destro. Not only was the song a smash success, but it also containedsubliminal messages that bent all who listened to it to the sinister will of Cobra. Fortunately, G.I. Joe was able to shut down Cold Slither and save the day once more.
While the cartoon Cold Slither was made up of Zartan, Buzzer, Ripper, and Torch, the real Cold Slither consists ofGus Rios(vocals/bass),Matt Harvey(guitar),Ross Sewage(guitar), andAndy Selway(drums). All are veterans of the music scene: Cold Slither’s music is described as “dystopian metal with themes of swamp-born menace and Cobra-fueled power.”
Cold Slither willmake their on-stage debut during San Diego Comic Con on July 24at San Diego’s Brick by Brick; their exclusive records and action figures will be available during the convention. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
