For whatever reason, HBO did not release an official plot description for this coming Sunday’sGame of Thrones— but the title says it all. It’s Jon Snow vs. Ramsay Bolton, day vs. night in the episode titled “The Battle of the Bastards.” Followinga trailerteasing fans with footage from the showdown, a new batch of photos sees giants, swords, and, yup, bastards. Oh my!
Kit Haringtonhas returned back to the world of the living in Westeros, and since relinquishing his duties as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch he’s ready to take back his home. With his stepsister Sansa (Sophie Turner), he’s been wrangling together as many fighters as he can. For better or worse, he’ll now face Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) with everything he’s got.

The new photos show more of the massive episode, including the Wilding’s giant and spokesman Tormund (Kristofer Hivju) in the heat of battle, while Jon raises his sword to face a line of charging soldiers on horseback. Elsewhere, Sansa has truly come into her own as she stares daggers at Ramsay, who probably has a few dirty tricks up his sleeve. I mean, have you met the guy?!
Written byGame of ThronesshowrunnersDavid BenioffandD. B. Weiss, “The Battle of the Bastards” is directed byMiguel Sapochnik. He helmed last season’s “Hardhome,” which saw that massive battle with the Whitewalkers and the Night King that still sends chills up my spine.

Sunday’s episode has a 60-minute runtime and is the second to last episode of season 6. June 26th will wrap things up with an hour-and-a-half-long finale, titled “The Winds of Winter,” which takes its name from thatGame of Thronesbook authorGeorge R.R. Martinhas been working on for, like, ever. Sapochnik, too, directs that episode, so settle in because after a pretty slow-moving season, shit’s going down.
