In a new behind-the-scenes video that sheds light onGame of ThronesSeason 8 Episode 2, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” showrunnersDavid BenioffandD.B. Weissclarify some of the story choices that were made. Benioff and Weiss reveal that this episode was always seen as a “what would these characters do with their last night on Earth?” story, as many of the show’s disparate characters have come together to face a common enemy.
They begin by discussing the Trial of Jaime Lannister and how Jaime’s arrival in Winterfell affects the characters differently, but also discuss that compelling exchange between Sansa and Dany that turns cold quickly. When it comes to that song that closes out the episode, they reveal that they always knew they wanted a song in this final season, and that felt like the right place to put it. And while that is indeedDaniel Portman’s real singing voice, the show’s composerRamin Djawadiwrote the music for the song.

While this video doesn’t offer too many shocking revelations, given the limited amount of press that Benioff and Weiss do, it’s nice to getsomeinsight into how decisions were made going into this final season. One imagines next week’s featurette—which will go behind the scenes of the Battle of Winterfell episode—will be particularly noteworthy.
