When she first made her debut inGen V, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) was shown to have deadly potential, and her powers of blood manipulation only increased as the show progressed. By the finale of the first season, she gained more confidence and precision, but she still remainsoutclassed by the Sevenand other supes. The trailer forGen VSeason 2,however,shows that the mysterious Project Odessa might help Marie reach her peak in ability, but there are dark hints about this newfound power, too. It’s clear that Marie remains crucial to Vought in their plan for domination, but if this heartfelt and promising student manages to get her way, their new living weapon now stands to be their biggest problem.
Marie Has a Slow Rise to Power in ‘Gen V’ Season 1
LikeThe Boys,Gen Vwastes no time in revealingthe brutal world that these superheroes live in, except the spin-off begins with a girl whose powers are manifesting for the very first time. The results prove to be just as chaotic, resulting in death and destruction, and when a young Marie (Jaeda LeBlanc) accidentally kills her parents, it’s a sign of her magnitude, if not actual control. As a young adult, Marie starts off with some degree of knowledge, but also remains traumatized by her past, and the fact that her abilities are deemed “unmarketable” by Godolkin University further erodes her confidence as a student. Much like the other main characters, the power Marie possesses serves as a blunt metaphor for common teenage problems, with hers being self-harm, although it’s not long before fate and circumstance lend her a helping hand.
Throughout the first season ofGen V, Marie is forced to test her abilities, usually on impulse or in self-defense, and she is shocked by just how easy it can be to maim or kill people with just a few moments of concentration. She also gets a major confidence boost when she discovers that her own idol, Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), has the same powers that she does, and any fan ofThe Boyscan tell you how deadlysheis when in the right headspace. Marie is not yetat the level where she can pop heads, but her ability to detonate entire limbs means she is getting close, andnow there is evidence that she will continue to keep growing in her sophomore year.

Marie Is Growing Her Power in ‘Gen V’ Season 2, but Is There a Catch?
When we leave Marie at the end of the first season, she has just been knocked unconscious by Homelander (Antony Starr) during a raid on the Godolkin campus. It seemed odd that she and her fellow students were spared, much less why they would be readmitted, but now we know the reason why. The new trailer reveals that Godolkin’s new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), has taken a clear interest in Marie and views her as crucial to the completion of Project Odessa, which began when the school was originally founded decades earlier. From the few shots we get in the trailer, itappears to be some kind of experimental program, one that Marie partakes in order to learn more about it.Cipher also notes the raw power Marie has, and claims that she could eventually be more powerful than Homelander himself. Given how wary the leader of the Seven was of Neuman, who was implied to havethe potential to kill him if she had so desired, this hardly sounds absurd.
At the same time, there is a darker side to the new abilities Marie possesses, one that the trailer briefly hints at but never states directly. If you look closely, there are several shots of her levitating some objects and people, including Jordan (London Thor) in a cell, and there are other students, like an enlarged Emma (Lizze Broadway), being constantly thrown around with plenty of force. We already know that the tragic death of actorChance Perdomoin a motorcycle accident last yearhas led the showrunners to retire the characterof Andre, and Marie is seen combing through his files with a look of shock. Since his telekinetic abilities were very similar to hers, and with the implication that he was a victim of such testing, is it possible she could have inherited his abilities? If so,that would render Marie exponentially more powerful, but it also might be a massive source of guiltthat leads her to deeply question whether trying to fight Vought from the inside still remains morally righteous.

Did ‘Gen V’s Season 2 Trailer Just Reveal a Major Storyline Connected to ‘The Boys’ Final Season?
The spin-off might play a massive role in the fight against Homelander.
Could Marie Be Crucial to Bringing Down Vought in The Boys Universe?
One thing that makesGen Vsuch a great spin-off is thatit stands alone fromThe Boysas a story, but it remains just connected enough to have them tie into each other without making viewers do loads of homework. During the first season, references were scarce, but the events at Godolkin themselvesplayed directly intoThe BoysSeason 4a year later. Now,the shows’ crossing over will be even more explicit, and it raises a big question about Marie and her place in this universe now that Billy Butcher’s (Karl Urban) story is about to wrap up. An actual main role for her in Season 5 feels unlikely, but Marie could be a crucial player in destroying Voughtby either exposing Project Odessa or even turning her status as a living weapon against them.
How exactly these two shows will tie together is a mystery that will have to wait untilGen Vreturns, butthe signs of Marie’s importance are clear from the start. The fact that Starlight (Erin Moriarty) trusts her enough with a mission like this shows that she is already a crucial part of the resistance, one that has been growing on campus. Since she is on the run andher own allies remain separated once again, Annie needs all the help she can get. Regardless of how and when it happens, Marie is just as intent on taking Vought down, and by the time Season 2 is finished, she’ll hopefully be one step closer to succeeding.
