There is much fervor over the new playHarry Potter and the Cursed Child, and for good reason. It’s the first officialHarry Pottersequel we’ve gotten since the conclusion ofDeathly Hallows, even itJ.K. Rowlingherself didn’t write it and even if it’s a play, not a book. But no matter, the play is currently in previews in London ahead of the official opening on July 30th, and given that it takes place 19 years after the events ofDeathly Hallowsand revolves around Harry Potter’s youngest son Albus, interest from thePotterfaithful is at a fever pitch.
Many have been curious if theJack Thorne-penned play will live up to the standard set by Rowling with her tremendous accomplishment, and while we’ve got a couple weeks to wait before word is out, there’s one very important person who wholeheartedly approves: Hermione Granger herselfEmma Watson. The actress recently attended a performance of the play in London and had nothing but high praise for the continuation of Hermione’s journey:

Yesterday I went to see the Cursed Child. I came in with no idea what to expect and it was AMAZING. Some things about the play were, I think, possibly even more beautiful than the films. Having seen it I felt more connected to Hermione and the stories than I have since Deathly Hallows came out, which was such a gift. Meeting Noma and seeing her on stage was like meeting my older self and have her tell me everything was going to be alright, which as you can imagine was immensely comforting (and emotional)! The cast and crew welcomed me like I was family and Noma was everything I could ever hope she would be. She’s wonderful. The music is beautiful… I could go on…
Noma is, of course, actressNoma Dumezweni, who fills the role of adult Hermione in the play. While there are said to be some serious revelations in the story, thus far things have been kept under wraps (thankfully). But if you want to experienceHarry Potter and the Cursed Childbut won’t be going to London anytime soon, the full published version of the play will be available to purchase and read at your pleasure on July 31st, so hit up your local bookstore for yet anotherHarry Pottermidnight release.
