Heartstopperwill break our hearts when Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie’s (Joe Locke) love story concludes with a movie. No more anticipation between seasons, no hope of seeing them together in (the foreseeable) future, fans will be both happy and sad –for the same reason— that one of the best queer stories on TV concluded. But we are far away from that conclusion as the movie, which will bring the final chapter of the long-running series, is still in production, and Locke recently gave us a thrilling update.
TheHeartstoppermovie began filming back in June, and Locke recently revealed to Deadline that the production is going well and will provide a “nice closing chapter.” Over the course of three seasons, we got to see Charlie and Nick growing together from the angst of first love to navigating the complexities of love andslightly darker themes in the previous season, which solidifies the show’s intent to address more mature themes. Speaking of the movie, Locke revealed,

“It’s going great,we’re almost two thirds of the way through shooting now, and everything, touch wood, is going well. We’re having a great time doing it, it’s a really nice closing chapter of the story.”
What to Expect from the ‘Heartstopper’ Movie?
Storywise, the movie will pick up the story wherethe third season ended, and both Nick and Charlie have to make life-changing decisions. Furthermore, Nick will be leaving for university, so how their long-distance relationship pans out remains to be seen, along with all the angst of separation and emotional turmoil that comes with it.
The movie’s runtime will be significantly shorter than a season, so how the makers wrap up each character arc remains to be seen. But certainly,Heartstopperwill be going out on its own terms. Show creatorAlice Osemanpreviously sharedher vision of the movie, divulging, “But once I began to see the entire vision, I knew it would be something even more beautiful than a regular season could achieve. We are feeling very ambitious about what is possible in a movie format. With no need for end-of-episode cliff-hangers or a new twist every episode, every part of Heartstopper can be elevated to a higher quality to create something memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric.”
TheHeartstoppermovie is currently in production. Meanwhile, you’re able to check out the three seasons of the show on Netflix and stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
