As the newInfernotrailer shows, you can’t keep a good symbologist down. In the new film starringTom Hanksas Robert Langdon, Langdon is in Italy trying to stop a super-virus from being unleashed on the populace by solving clues related to Dante’sInferno.

I was a bit confused as to why Sony keeps cranking out these movies, and then I checked the box office totals. The Da Vinci Coderaked in$758 millionworldwide while the sequel,Angels & Demons, pulled in$485 million. While that’s a fairly steep drop, you have to remember that A)Da Vinci Codewas a worldwide phenomenon, so of course the film adaptation was going to be a hit; and B) making almost half a billion worldwide is nothing to sneeze at. Sony clearly hopes that they’ve still got a viable franchise with these Robert Langdon movies, and perhaps that’s the case. They seem to have a formula that works for people, and it will be interesting to see if there’s still enthusiasm for Langdon’s latest adventure.
