The film earned 73% from critics and a 68% from audiences onRotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $203 million globally against a $55 million budget, making it a major financial success.

Two years beforeEverest, Kormákur teamed up withDenzel WashingtonandMark Wahlbergfor2 Guns, the forgotten comic book movie adaptation that’s currently streaming on Starz. He more recently directedBeast, the action thriller starringIdris Elbathat recently made the jump to Peacock. He will next direct an episode ofKing and Conqueror, a drama series starringGame of ThronesveteranNikolaj Coster-WaldauandJames Norton.
