The English actor is in a league of his own when it comes to action-heavy roles, carving a niche for himself with features like theTransporterfranchise,Crank, andThe Beekeeper. His latest release and second collaboration with directorDavid Ayer,A Working Man, has had a modest box office run but is grabbing eyeballs on streaming. According toFlixPatrol,A Working Manis steadily climbing the Vudu charts, standing tall at #3 behind animatedDogmanat #1, and Marvel Studios’Captain America: Brave New Worldat #2 on the Top 10 list. The feature is a through-and-through action flick with an emotional core and thrilling plot. No wonder fans are enjoying the feature at their leisure.
The movie has divided the audience and critics, as seen in the splitRotten Tomatoesscore: while critics give it a 49%, the audience score sits much higher at 87%. Despite the mixed reviews, the movie has grossed$98.4 million worldwideagainst a modest $40 million budget. This Ayer and Statham collaboration didn’t fare as well as their previous movie,The Beekeeper,which earned $162 million at the box office and a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
What Is ‘A Working Man’ About?
Based onChuck Dixon’s novelLevon’s Trade, the film stars Statham as Levon Cade, a former black ops operative trying to live a quiet life as a construction worker in Chicago. But when his boss’ daughter (Arianna Rivas) is abducted by human traffickers, Cade must dig into his deadly past to bring her home – and what he uncovers is far bigger than he ever imagined.Collider’s Nate Richard writes in his review:
“Regardless, A Working Man still has more than enough moments that will keep your attention just enough to enjoy yourself.There’s also an extra layer of sweetness in the scenes between Levon and his daughter, as well as with Jenny.
