Despite a poor critical reception,Countdownhas been dominating Prime Video. The action series created by One Chicago vetDerek Haashas consistently been in the top two positions in the past several weeks, only being beaten by the young adult drama seriesThe Summer I Turned Pretty. However, the entry of a new thriller,Butterfly, less than a week ago, has proven to be the challengeCountdownneeded.Butterflyis currently occupying the position thatCountdownhas been dominating, and theJensen Ackles-starrer is slipping down the streamer’s chart.ButterflystarsLostandHawai’i Five-OstarDaniel Dae Kim, and is filling thegap left byReacher. It has also been received better than Ackles' show, withCountdowncurrently rated 38% againstButterfly’s 68% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Butterflyis “a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It’s centered on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for.” The series was co-created byKen WoodruffandStephen Cha, and also starsPiper PeraboandLouis Landau.

What To Expect in the Next Episode of ‘Countdown’

Meanwhile,the team is back togetherinCountdownSeason 1, Episode 11, “Run,” as a new case demands their attention. “Shepherd (Violet Beane) works to decipher the manifesto recovered at Cabin 6 while the rest of the team pursues a suspect on the run,” reads the episode’s official logline. “And then I thought, ‘How interesting and novel would it be if I started a second case within the first season?'” Haas explained the surprising decision to resolve Volchek’s case andmove on to another one. “That way, the audience can’t settle into the rhythm that they’re used to, which is, ‘I know that the case is still going and can’t possibly wrap up because [Episode] 13 is weeks away. I want you on your toes,” he continued, adding:

“The last thing we control as writers is surprise, and if you can surprise the audience, they’re going to want to keep coming back.”
