Even though fans ofKaiju No.8had already watched all the episodes from Season 1 when the movieKaiju No. 8: Mission Reconpremiered in theaters, they had a good reason to go to cinemas: the compilation film featured a special episode that depicted their new favorite characters in anentirely different vibe. Fortunately for those who missed the event in theaters, the franchise will finally make the special episode “Hoshina’s Day Off” available to stream on July 5.

However, fans on this side of the planet will have to keep their eyes peeled for new information because details of subtitles ordubbed versionshaven’t been officially announced at this point. So far, the franchise has only revealed that the special episode will air in Japan and a live stream will become available on X/Twitter so that fans all over the world can check it out simultaneously. If they are preparing a worldwide event, however, chances are that fans will be able to toggle on subtitles in their local language.

What Is “Hoshina’s Day Off” About?

As the title suggests, the side story covers a rare event in the lives of the Kaiju Defense Force: a day in which they have no giant monster to fight and no debris to clean up. This transforms the normally franticKaiju No. 8into aslice-of-life anime, and we follow Soshiro Hoshina (voiced byKengo Kawanishiin the original Japanese and byLandon McDonaldin the English dub) as he enjoys a quiet day. However, Reno (Wataru Kato/Adam McArthur) and Iharu (Yuuki Shin/Ben Stegmair) don’t believe that Hoshina is truly able to kick back and relax, so they decide to follow him in order to discover what he does when he’s not working.

Even though “Hoshina’s Day Off” was the biggest draw forKaiju No.8fans in cinemas, the compilation film was also an excellent way to check out the story on the biggest screen possible. Since theanime seriesdepictsgiant monsters on a regular basis, fans will certainly enjoy every opportunity to check out Kafka Hibino’sbiggest fightsas they would a blockbuster movie.
