In the on-going war between Marvel and DC, mightKevin Smithwant to switch sides? The director and comic book fanboy became the spokesman of sorts for DC and co-hosted that TV special on The CW about the cinematic universe. He even directed an episode ofThe Flashand will helm another down the road, but now he has his eyes set on Marvel’sDaredevilandThe Defenders.
During an interview withIGN, Smith spoke about his interest in joining the behind-the-scenes crew of the Netflix series. Regarding the Man Without Fear, he said:

I feel very at home in thatFlashworld, so much so that I’d love to do the others. I even told [Marvel chief creative officer]Joe Quesada- we worked onDaredeviltogether back in the day, I wrote it, he drew it - I said, ‘Dude, I want to directDaredevil, man. That’d be wild to be able to do it in real-life - let’s co-direct it, that’d be cool, just like we did the book. We could co-direct an episode and then, like, take the passion from the page to the screen.’ I’m going to try and make thatDaredevilthing happen. Every time I talk to Quesada or [Executive Vice President of Marvel Television]Jeph Loeb, I’m like, ‘Hey! When are you going back down to the cameras?
Daredevilrecently debuted its second season and it’s not clear if we’ll get a third, though Netflix seems dedicated to expanding its Marvel properties. For one,Jon Bernthal’s the Punisher is getting his own spin-off. If notDaredevil, Smith is more than ready to tackleThe Defendersminiseries, which will be here before Marvelites know it. To that end, he said:

You know, they’re gearing up now forThe Defenders. If I can get a piece of that Defenders miniseries holy shit, could you imagine, dude? Because then you’re working with multiple suits at once, that’d be phenomenal. Just doing a mini-Avengers- even one episode of that run ofDefendersis like, ‘oh, I get to exercise any interest I had inAvengersbut doing it on a scale where nobody’s betting $200 million on the guy that made fuckin’Yoga Hosers.’
The Defenders, whichDaredevilshowrunnersDouglas PetrieandMarco Ramirezwilloversee, will united the masked vigilante (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A premiere has yet to be set, though it’s scheduled for next year.
