In this age of superhero movie saturation news, I’m thrilled to be bringing you something completely different. It sounds like the MGM Midnite Movies filmKiller Klowns from Outer Spacemight be getting a new life…on television. Writer/directorStephen Chiododirected the 1988 cult classic that he wrote with his brotherCharles Chiodo, and the project is still on their minds. In a recent podcast, Stephen Chiodo revealed that they’re actually trying to bring a sequel/remake to TV.
The series, cryptically described as “a trilogy in four parts” or a “requel” by Chiodo, would feature a whole new cast of characters more than 25 years after the events of the original alien clown invasion. The sequel and even a TV series had long been in the works and Chiodo talks about how the previous deals fell apart. This new version that Chiodo is trying to bring to TV screens is intended to please fans of the original film while drawing in new fans as well.

Here’s what Chiodo had to say about the newKiller Klownsproject in development while chatting withThe Movie Cryptpodcast:
“Right now, we are currently pursuing a long arch series for cable. We wondered, should we do a sequel to the first one or do we do a remake? … We came up with a ‘requel’ – it’s a sequel and a remake. We’ve been developing this for a while. … It’s a trilogy in four parts, and it really follows the continuing adventures of new people who are experiencing this phenomenon of a Klown invasion, and once in a while you see some of the old guys pop up and hear their stories – find out what happened over the last 25 years. It’s fucking great.”
I know that variousKiller Klownsprojects have been in the works since 1988 so I won’t get my hopes up that this one will actually make the leap into production, but as a big fan of the original film I wouldloveto see this mythology get an opportunity to expand in the modern era.

When teenagers Mike (Grant Cramer) and Debbie (Suzanne Snyder) see a comet crash outside their sleepy small town, they investigate and discover a pack of murderous aliens who look very much like circus clowns. They try to warn the local authorities, but everyone assumes their story is a prank. Meanwhile, the clowns set about harvesting and eating as many people as they can. It’s not until they kidnap Debbie that Mike decides it’s up to him to stop the clowns' bloody rampage.
