The SnyderVerse faithful have spoken… butJames Gunnisn’t exactly shaking in his director’s chair. Gunn has officially responded to the so-called “boycott movement” by a faction ofZack Snyderfans who plan to tankhis upcoming filmSuperman—and, predictably, he’s not losing any sleep over it. OnThreads, Gunn addressed the grassroots campaign to spoil the movie, flood review sites with negative scores, and artificially block ticket sales by reserving and abandoning online seats. The bizarre protest stems from resentment over Gunn and co-chairPeter Safranrebooting the DC Universe, effectively ending the SnyderVerse that began with 2013’sMan of Steel.
“LOL, I think we’llsurvive,” Gunn wrote in response. “I’m not sure the eight people that listen to that guy (I’m going to go out on a limb and guess it’s a guy) are going to impact the course of events.” That “guy” refers to a Reddit user rallying fans with plans to “fight for our SnyderVerse on the imposterSupermanreleaseday.” The strategy? Spoilers, fake reviews, and ticket trolling. Their reasoning: “Gunn fired the first shot and killed the SnyderVerse.”

Gunn later expanded on the drama in an interview with Rolling Stone, explaining that he doesn’t mindhaving detractors, because not everyone will be behind everything he does:
“You don’t want to have everybody root for you. Some of the things get ridiculous — I just know that every time something comes out, it doesn’t matter how positively received, there’s gonna be something that is of great controversy. It was great controversy that the sun caused Superman pain.”

The director even referenced one actor inSuperman’s top five castwho gets worked up reading online hate. “I said, ‘First of all, you realize that the trailer came out and [reaction] was 97, 98 percent positive.’ These people help us, because you don’t want everything to seem 100 percent positive.”
Is Zack Snyder Involved with James Gunn’s Superman?
Despite internet rage, Gunn remains publicly respectful toward Snyder. In fact, Gunn previously revealedhe consulted Snyderabout theSupermansuit design, particularly about whether or not to include the red trunks. “One of the biggest questions was, ‘Were we gonna have trunks, or were we gonna not have trunks?’” Gunn told Fandango. “I talked to Zack Snyder, who was like, ‘I tried a billion different versions with the trunks, and at the end of the day, I just couldn’t get there.’ And I was feeling exactly the same way.”
Eventually, Gunn did opt for the classic trunks after talking withSupermanstarDavid Corenswet. “Everyone knows [Superman] is an alien… He’s sort of this terrifying creature,” Gunn said. “David said, ‘But he really likes kids, and human beings, and people. He wants kids to not be afraid of him.’ And so that was the thing that made me decide to keep the trunks.”

Supermanopens in theaters August 09, 2025.
Follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned.
