The 2025 box office has been a mixed bag. Despite a summer packed with successes, from Universal’sHow to Train Your Dragonremake to Disney’s live-actionLilo & Stitch, and most recently the all-conqueringJurassic World Rebirth, the first half of the year was stuffed with box-office misfires. One of these financial misfires came in the form of the action thrillerFlight Risk, which teamed upMark Wahlbergwith directorMel Gibson, following their work together on 2022’sFather Stu.
Sadly, despite being made for a reported $25 million,Flight Riskfell short of the all-important $50 million mark,finishing its theatrical run with just $48.7 million. Split between $29.7 million domestically and $19 million from overseas markets,Flight Riskbuckled under the pressure of its box-office competition, from the 2024 overspill inMufasa: The Lion KingandSonic the Hedgehog 3, to the later arrivals ofCaptain America: Brave New WorldandThe Monkey. On its opening Sunday, the movie didn’t even manage to take first place in the box office charts before its second week, and it never recovered.
Despite box office struggles,Flight Riskhas since proved incredibly popular with those watching from home,dominating streaming charts, including on July 01, 2025. Officially, in the U.S.,Flight Riskis the number one most-watched movie on the streaming site Starz. Also starringMichelle DockeryandTopher Grace, the movie received just 30% from critics on review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, although it doubled that rating with a 62% score from audiences on the same platform.In his review, Collider’sJeff Ewingcalled the movie “repetitive, nonsensical, or underdeveloped.”
