McConaughey stars alongsideCole Hauser(Yellowstone) andMilla Jovovich(In the Lost Lands) inDazed and Confused, the 1993 comedy following the adventures of high school students on their last day of school in May 1976.Dazed and Confusedis currently streaming on Peacock, but Netflix has confirmed that the film will begin streaming on the platform at the start of next month, on August 1. It earned strong scores of 94% from critics (Certified Fresh) and 90% from audiences onRotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $8 million against a $6 million budget.
Dazed and Confused, which also starsBen Affleck, was written and directed byRichard Linklater, who recently teamed up withGlen Powell(Twisters) andAdria Arjona(Andor) forHit Man, the romantic comedy streaming on Netflix. Linklater is also known for his work directingSchool of Rock(Jack Black) andBad News Bears(Billy Bob Thornton). McConaughey followedDazed and Confusedjust one year later by starring inAngels in the Outfield, the classic baseball movie that’s currently streaming on Disney+. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that he began starring in romantic comedies likeThe Wedding PlannerandTiptoes, and while he’s been absent from the rom-com genre for years now, he’s still known asone of the few who revolutionized it. McConaughey also recently made his MCU debut as Cowboypool inDeadpool & Wolverine.

McConaughey has wrapped filming on two movies that have yet to be assigned official release dates. He will star alongsideKurt RussellinThe Rivals of Amziah King, the upcoming crime drama that premiered earlier this year at SXSW and earned animmaculate 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. McConaughey will also feature alongsideAmerica Ferrara(Barbie) inThe Lost Bus, the upcoming thriller fromPaul Greengrass, following a bus driver and teacher who helped save lives during California’s Camp Fire.The Lost Busis expected to premiere before the end of the year, but the future ofThe Rivals of Amziah Kingremains unclear.
