It must be said,Jason Stathamdoesn’t do too many comedies. He can be funny, but in a rather wry manner. But one of his biggest hits, and certainly his best-reviewed film, isSpy. Directed byPaul Feigand released in 2015, it was among the slew of hit films at the time headlined byMelissa McCarthy.Spywas a major box office success, grossing over $230 million worldwide. But the movie’s lifetime haul has been passed over twice byMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The eighth and purportedly final installment in the long-running action franchise recently celebrated the considerable achievement of having recovered its production budget.
The Final Reckoninghas generated $150 million domestically and $450 million worldwide. Directed byChristopher McQuarrieand starringTom Cruise, the movie reportedlycost a whopping $400 million to produce. The Final Reckoning’s budget ballooned because of circumstances both unforeseen and expected. Cruise insists on orchestrating some of the most ambitious stunt sequences ever committed to screen, and McQuarrie typically enters production without a firm script on hand. This isn’t a cost-effective strategy. The team ran into further trouble this time around with the pandemic and the industry-wide strikes of 2023.

The Final Reckoningwill have to generate around $800 million worldwide in order to break even, going by the rule of thumb. This would make it the top-grossing installment in the franchise, ahead ofMission: Impossible - Fallout, which grossed over $790 million worldwide.Falloutremains the best-reviewed film of the series, with a near-perfect 98% Rotten Tomatoes score. The Final Reckoning, on the other hand, is currently sitting at an 80% score, although itsaudience rating on the aggregator websitestands at 89%.
