Greetings Colliderfolk!
Long-time viewer and this makes my second question mailed to you guys.
Lots of people refer to the act of turning their brains off when they watch movies. I have a serious issue with this practice. There’s a huge distinction between a movie being “popcorn”, but being good enough in other areas to be excused (Pacific Rim, in my opinion) and a movie being dumb and only viewable as good if you don’t think about it too much or at all (Transformers).
My question is this: Should we really accept being told that they only work when you dumb yourself down? What makes a movie turn your brain off dumb and what makes it good “popcorn fun?”
Thanks, and keep up the good work!
