Netflix has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedyMurder Mystery, which is technically a newAdam SandlerNetflix movie, but actually hails from different creative partners than the folks who made forgettable Sandler Netflix films likeThe Ridiculous SixandThe Do-Over. This original comedy boasts a screenplay byZodiacandThe Amazing Spider-ManwriterJames Vanderbiltand was directed byWorkaholicsalumKyle Newacheck, who also helmed the Netflix comedyGame Over, Man.

InMurder Mystery, Sandler andJennifer Anistonplay a married couple who take a European vacation, only to get invited to the Super Yacht of an elderly billionaire after a chance meeting. When the billionaire turns up dead, Sandler and Aniston arise as the prime suspects and must then go on the run.

While the different creative partners and premise here sound promising, unfortunately this trailer is rather disappointing. It looks like a comedic riff on anAgatha Christienovel (complete with a Poirot parody), but with all the subtlety of the worst Sandler movies. What’s all the more frustrating is weknowSandler can be funny, and Aniston has tremendous comedic chops, but this debut trailer doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence.
