Once in a while, a non-English language comes to Netflix that blows the viewers’ minds, and fans have found the movie of the season. German language movieExterritorialhas dethronedTom Hardy’s action-packed featureHavocin its second week. Exterritorial is an action feature, starringJeanne Goursaudas a mother and former soldier whose son vanished inside a US consulate, and she does everything to find him. The movie has been at the top spot in 74 countries. In contrast, Hardy’sHavoc,another long-awaited action flick, enjoyed the top spot for a week and is now on #2.
The film, directed and written byChristian Zübert, follows a former Special Forces soldier, Sara (Goursaud), who is turning a new leaf as she heads to the US Consulate General in Frankfurt to obtain a work visa. She and her son, Josh (Rickson Guy da Silva), are planning a move to America but while the pair are at the consulate, Josh goes missing without a trace. Sara realizes something is amiss when she’s interviewed by regional security officer Erik (Dougray Scott) and Sergeant Donovan (Kayode Akinyemi). In order to uncover what’s really going on and to find her son at all costs,Sara uses every ounce of her military training to fight her way through the labyrinthine consulate building and outmaneuver her adversaries.
The feature is full of epic action while maintaining an emotional core. Despite a 44 percentRotten Tomatoesscore, the flick is going strong on streaming charts. It has a slew of talents, including Goursaud as a former soldier and single mother, Sara Wulf, Dougray Scott as Eric Kynch, a regional security officer at the US Consulate,Lera Abovaas Irina, Kayode Akinyemi as a security officer, Sergeant Donovan,Annabelle Mandengas Deborah Allen, and Rickson Guy da Silva as Sara’s son Josh, among others.
Fans were eager to see Hardy’s collaboration with directorGareth Evans,but despite good action and a thrilling plot, the movie failed to impress its audience. It stayed atop the streaming charts during its first week but soon saw its downfall. Interestingly,Havocis now Hardy’s lowest-rated movie. It follows a cop (Hardy) who, after a drug deal gone wrong, fights his way through a corrupt city’s criminal underworld to save a politician’s son.
