InSonic the Hedgehog 2, Maddie is wearing a black jacket and red shirt; those colors correspond to Shadow the Hedgehog, who’s revealed to be held in stasis during that film’s post-credits scene. DirectorJeff Fowleraddressed the “Maddie Color Theory” attheSonic the Hedgehog 3premiere, saying he was aware of it but couldn’t take full credit. “I would love to say we’ve had this all mapped out, but you know, I’ll leave it to fans to speculate whether or not that was all planned out,” Fowler said with a laugh. Those fans did note that Maddie is wearinga blue sweatshirt and gray hatat the end ofSonic the Hedgehog 3,hinting that Silver the Hedgehog might factor intoSonic the Hedgehog 4.
Who Is Silver the Hedgehog?
Silver made his first appearance during theSonic the Hedgehog(2006)video game, where he traveled back in time to prevent an apocalyptic future from happening, andhe believed that Sonic was the cause of said apocalypse. Silver has the power of telekinesis, allowing him to levitate heavy objects and even fly; much like Sonic and Shadow, he can also enter a “Super” form utilizing the power of the Chaos Emeralds.Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)is often regarded as theworst game in the Sonic franchise, but Silver has reappeared in future games and even Sonic the Hedgehog comics published by Archie Comics and IDW Publishing.
Part of that is due to the fact that his backstory strongly resembles Trunks fromDragon Ball Z.In fact, development material forSonic the Hedgehog (2006)even references Trunks when talking about Silver. If Silver appears in the end credits ofSonic the Hedgehog 4,it means that the Sonic moviescould potentially go to the futureor even introduce the malevolent Mephiles the Dark, who manipulated Silver into battling Sonic. There’s another character that could potentially appear, and it’s someone who has ties to Silver:Blaze the Cat. Blaze is the guardian of the Chaos Emeralds in her world, similar to how Knuckles is in our world, and true to her name, she has pyrokinetic abilities. She also joins Silver on his quest through time, and becomes an ally to Sonic and friends. In a scene inSonic the Hedgehog 3, Maddie is visiting Tom in the hospital, and wears clothing that matches Blaze’s purple and white color scheme.Sonic the Hedgehog 4hasn’t started production yet, but the hints at Silver and Blaze mean that it could kickstart a whole new direction for the Sonic films.
