Tomorrow I head to Park City, Utah for my ninth Sundance Film Festival. I have soft spot for Sundance because despite the cold and despite some of the similarities among the indies they select, at the end of the day, there’s a real sense of discovery that you don’t get from other major film festivals. You never know what’s going to be the breakout hit that everyone is talking about, and the fact that these movies are mostly unknowns let you be a champion for the films you adore....

Baby Reindeeris a recently popular limited series on Netflix, starring and produced byRichard Gaddbased on his own personal experience of being stalked by a middle-aged woman. At first, everything seems normal, at least until he accidentally eggs her on, causing her to stalk him, to the point where he fears the consequences of rejecting her. However, she seems determined to be a part of every piece of his life. Richard Gadd’s character, Donny, finds himself stuck between enabling his stalker or reporting her to the police....

DirectorMatt Reevesdiscussed withEsquireyesterday how his upcoming filmThe Batmanwill not include the iconic origin story for the Caped Crusader. It seems as if this particular dead horse plot has been officially murdered. Was it opposite day onThe Flash? “Therefore I Am” felt very off tone for the show and almost like an alternative reality for most of the hour. Instead of the fun, positive, joke-filledThe Flash, it was dour and gloomy. The shift suited The Thinker’s origin story, but wasn’t all that enjoyable to watch. The battle between the Fastest Man alive and Fastest Mind while-he’s-still-alive has officially begun. Once Barry and Joe showed up at the DeVoe residence at the end of last week’s episode, it was game on....

We know the name “Tarzan”, but what does that mean? Who is he? InDavid Yates’The Legend of Tarzan, he’s a hero without a personality, a legend without an interesting story. The movie gets caught between some interesting questions like can Tarzan be civilized and what does it mean for him to engage in his wild side, but never pursues those questions to interesting ends. It’s also unsure if it wants to tell an origin story or come up with something new, and satisfies neither so we’re stuck with a bunch of dull flashbacks to break up the monotony of a white savior story complete with a damsel in distress....

For us - the viewers - time in the world ofThe Walking Deadis temporarily suspended with our heroes on their knees before the leader of the Saviors, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). While the months of waiting feel like an unbearable amount of time to find out who meets the business end of Lucille (a barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat), to Rick & Co., that moment has already played out. So it’s a logical step forward for the survivors to start wondering who’s next, what’s to become of them, and just what the hell is up with these Saviors....

Fire Countryis almost back for the second half of its third season, and it’s safe to say that the season has beena disappointment for nearly every main character. True Detectiveis back, in more ways than one. The HBO series first launched in 2014 and is largely responsible for two current TV trends: having one director helm an entire season, and scoring big name movie stars to lead a close-ended one-season story. While the “one director” thing only held forTrue Detective’s first season (directed byCary Fukunaga) and the show’s second season was a critical disappointment, the show is back in fine form forTrue DetectiveSeason 3, and a new trailer teases what we can expected in the episodes ahead....
