Howard University announced that it has renamed its newly re-established college of fine arts after its late alumnus,Chadwick Boseman. The Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts is led by the recently-appointed DeanPhylicia Rashad, a well-known mentor and friend of Boseman during his time at Howard University, where he studied directing and eventually earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Rashad gave a statement on the news: “Unrelenting in his pursuit of excellence, Chadwick was possessed with a passion for inquiry and a determination to tell stories — through acting, writing, and directing — that revealed the beauty and complexity of our human spirit....

Ernie Hudsonis the latest addition toBobby Farrelly’sChampions, a movie about a Special Olympics team that features a cast of actors with intellectual disabilities. AsDeadlinereports, the movie is a Hollywood adaptation of the Goya Award-winning Spanish filmCampeones, which follows an arrogant basketball coach who begins to reevaluate his life once he’s forced to lead a team with intellectual disabilities as community service. The original Spanish film was inspired by the real-life Special Olympics team Aderes, from Valencia, which won twelve Spanish championships between 1999 and 2014....

With directorMel Gibson’sfantastic new filmHacksaw Ridgenow playing in theaters around the country, last week I sat down withTeresa Palmerfor an exclusive video interview. If you’re not familiar withHacksaw Ridge, the film tells the true story ofDesmond Doss, a conscientious collaborator and Army medic who refused to bear arms during World War II, but ended up saving 75 men during the bloodiest battle of the war without firing a single bullet. Written byRobert Schenkkan,Andrew Knight, andBraveheartscribeRandall Wallace, it’s an incredibly well made film that doesn’t shy away from showing what really happens in war while also paying tribute to a man that did something next to impossible....

The ending toMan of Steelwas so controversial that for the follow-up film, the filmmakers decided to retroactively turn that controversy into a plot point. Much was made about the fact that, during Superman’s climactic battle with General Zod, a massive amount of collateral damage ensued in downtown Metropolis. Critics argued that Superman would inherently know to steer the fight away from the populated area, while others countered that this was a Superman in the infancy of his crime-fighting career and, essentially, didn’t know any better....
