An adaptation of theGarth EnniscomicPreacherhas been in the works for years, but it wasn’t untilSeth RogenandEvan Goldberggot ahold of the property that it finally found its way to the screen. Instead of trying to cram the story into a feature film, theThis Is the Endfilmmakers envisioned it as a TV series, setting the drama up at AMC and enlistingBreaking BadalumSam Catlinto serve alongside them as executive producer and showrunner.
This all happened a little over a year ago, and now we’re on the cusp of thePreacherseries finally being unveiled to the public. The 2-hour pilot, which Rogen and Goldberg directed, is premiering at SXSW next week, and ahead of the debut Rogen has released new images from the show that reveal the core trio.

Dominic Cooperplays the titular preacher, Jesse Custer, a small-town Texas pastor who is imbued with the word of God, which allows him to command other people. The other two principal characters are Jesse’s old flame Tulip, played byRuth Negga, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, played byJoseph Gilgun. These three make up this trio of new images, offering a tease of their interpretations of the characters, but rest assured folks—Arsefaceisin the show, as portrayed byIan Colletti. He’s just being kept under wraps for now.
Thefirst trailer for the seriespromises a very violent, dark adaptation in keeping with the tone of the comic series, and judging by whatThe Walking Deadis able to get away with on the same network, I imagine we’re in for a drama that pulls no punches.

Check out the images below and look for our review of the pilot from SXSW on Collider soon.Preacherpremieres on AMC later this year.
