In today’sCollider Kidssegment, we’ve got some news on the first new animated series from the makers of Sesame Street in more than a decade. Sesame Workshop and HBO recently announced thatEsme & Roywill debut on Saturday, August 18th at 9:30AM on HBO. The program follows a young girl, Esme, and her best monster friend, Roy, on their adventures as the best monster babysitters in Monsterdale. Aimed at children ages four to six, it offers a creative new approach to teaching “learning through play” and mindfulness strategies.

With loveable characters who spark strong emotional connections among preschoolers and parents alike,Esme & Royinvites children into a colorful world where even the littlest monsters can overcome big challenges together. Across 26 episodes,Esme and Roywill use the power of play to help younger monsters through familiar situations like trying new foods and feeling scared during loud thunderstorms. Little viewers will look up to their new favorite monster-sitters as positive role models, learning how to manage strong emotions with simple mindfulness practices alongside Esme and Roy’s charges. Children are most ready for this kind of engaged, productive playtime when they can manage challenging feelings like worry and frustration.Esme & Royoffers easy-to-adopt strategies that can help even very young children regulate their emotions. Tactics include: taking slow belly breaths, which provide a pause for children to be reflective instead of reactive; self-talk that uses positive statements to remind kids of their strength and capability; giving oneself a soothing hug; and using a “glitter jar” to calm the body and mind, shaking a sparkly snow globe-like jar and taking deep breaths while watching the glitter swirl and slowly fall.

DreamWorksTV Cooks Up an Animated ‘JELL-O’ Series
JELL-O has launched a new animated series,The JELL-O Wobz, on YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. Created in partnership with DreamWorksTV, the series focuses on embracing imperfection, a theme that resonates with both parents and kids, and that the brand hopes to champion as part of its new JELL-O Play platform. JELL-O Play is a new line of JELL-O gelatin toys designed to inspire parents and kids to engage in free play and fun – central themes in theThe JELL-O Wobzanimated series.
The JELL-O Wobzis comprised of six episodes that follow the Wobz, a group of lovable JELL-O characters cast from humble kitchen objects, in their adventures through a fantastical kitchen world. The show’s protagonist, Bucket, is accidentally brought to life when JELL-O powder gets knocked into a bucket and mixes with a variety of leftover kitchen junk. He meets a variety of other JELL-O characters, each cast from a different shape that reflects their unique personalities. Meg, made from a measuring cup, tends to be a bit of a perfectionist, while Walter, created from a surgical glove with the thumb cut off, must overcome his fear of making mistakes.

Each episode, which lasts approximately four minutes, follows Bucket and his new friends through different adventures. The stories are based on real-world situations in which people confront and embrace imperfection, from accepting your physical appearance to admitting your own mistakes. While the cartoon’s visuals are playful and filled with humor, the messages ring true in a moment when millennial parents feel more pressure than ever to be perfect, with nearly 80% of millennial moms reporting that it is important to be the “the perfect mom” in a recentBabyCenter study.

The JELL-O Wobzseries comes on the heels of the launch of JELL-O Play, three product lines of edible toys that can be molded, shaped and built into whatever a child imagines, and are designed around themes that were specifically chosen to spark kids’ creativity, such as Ocean and Jungle.
