Avengers: Doomsdayis still close to a year and a half away after beingdelayed from May to December, but two of the film’s stars from different eras are teaming up for a new photo.Dr. Ethan-Era Mamuric, who uses the Instagram handle @thebodymechanic.dpt, posted a photo of himself training with bothJames MarsdenandSimu Liu. It’s unclear if this image is directly from the set or somewhere close by whereAvengers: Doomsdayis being filmed, but the prospect ofShang-Chi and Cyclops sharing the screenin the 2026Avengersfilm is undeniably exciting. The image can be found below, but it should come as no surprise that both stars look to be in peak physical conditioning, fully ready to take on Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.).

While Simu Liu’s casting as Shang-Chi forAvengers: Doomsdaywasn’t all that shocking, especially considering he’s one of the most beloved new introductions of the Multiverse Saga, the same can’t be said for James Marsden’s Cyclops. Fans were stunned during theDoomsdaycasting announcement stunt earlier this year when the chairs of classic X-Men stars such as Marsden,Patrick Stewart, and evenIan McKellenwere confirmed for roles in the film. Compounding this confusion isDeadpool & Wolverine, which played very much like a send-off for the entire Fox X-Men universe. It’s unclear at this time what role the X-Men are going to playin Avengers: Doomsday, but with incursions looming, fans can rest assured knowing they’re going to fight for their universe.Avengers: Doomsdayis currently in the heat of production andwill be released on June 27, 2025.

James Marsden’s Role in ‘Doomsday’ Might Keep Him out of Another Project

Earlier this year, Marsden starred alongsideSterling K. BrowninParadise, the twisty dystopian sci-fi series fromDan Fogelman. Marsden’s character dies in the opening moments of the first episode, but the show takes advantage of having a star of his stature in the cast with plenty of flashbacks that give him a chance to shine. Brown is confirmed to return inParadiseSeason 2, but Marsden’s ongoing commitment to shootAvengers: Doomsdaymay keep him from returning to the show.Fogelman confirmed to Colliderthat he’s a“busy”man to get right now.
