Sam won’t be staying down for long after the end ofYour Friends & NeighborsSeason 1.The finale, which was just released onApple TV+last week, sawOlivia Munn’s character on the wrong side of the law after trying to frameJon Hamm’s financier-turned-petty-thief Coop for the murder of her husband, Paul. A bloody suicide note was enough to expose Sam’s lies and send her away, but with no blood on her hands, her stay behind bars will be short-lived. Case in point, Munn is back and already filming Season 2 of the hit series in hopes of a quick turnaround for the dark dramedy. In a new conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, she also teased that Sam will waste no time clawing her way back to the high life when the series returns.
Your Friends & NeighborsSeason 1 centered on Coop at a low in his life after his wife left him and his job fired him. To keep the wealthy lifestyle of a hedge fund magnate going,he turns to thievery, stealing the valuable items his equally wealthy neighbors will never miss and turning them in for cool, hard cash. In the middle of that, he starts an affair with Sam, who, unlike many of the residents of the neighborhood with a legacy of wealth, had to work a lot harder to get to the same spot on the social mountaintop. Herunrequited feelings for Coop, coupled with her disdain for the rich people who merely had the path to the top paved in gold for them, ultimately informed her decision to turn on him in the end. Recovering from a murder accusation is much easier — and even beneficial — for Coop, however, than recovering from a framing attempt will be for Sam.
That difference between their statuses, and the age-old reality that the established rich and powerful are above consequences,will be a focal point of Season 2, Munn says. It’ll be an exploration of how moralitydoesn’t really matter in Coop’s privileged world, yet for someone like Sam, it’s a constant grind to stay at the top:
“In the second season, what we’ve all seen in the world for hundreds of years, too, this is the same story. People with wealth and power can do horrible things, and yet you turn around and they’re sitting next to you at the dinner party, and they just keep finding their way back into these social circles and keep finding their way back into being accepted. It’s staggering and shocking for most of society who have a moral compass. It’s set up that way because they’ve got the key, those cheat codes. Everything is set up for people who have been born with privilege; life is already set up for them to falter and come back up. My character wasn’t born with privilege and yet, here she is. She’s fallen off the mountain, and yet she’s still in this world, and we’re going to see the struggle of trying to stay in that world, keep a place in that world, get back to where she was and how everyone is going to handle that.”

Apple’s confidence in Your Friends & Neighbors paid off in Season 1.
