Apple TV+ has unveiled the first image fromSmoke, the upcoming drama series starringTaron EgertonandJurnee Smollett. The first two episodes of the gritty crime drama will premiere on June 27, with one episode following weekly every Friday until the show concludes in an epic finale on August 8. Inspired by true events,Smoketells the story of a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator hot on the trail of two serial arsonists. The series is based on the acclaimed podcastFirebug, which was previously believed to be the titleof the show until this latest announcement.Smokewas written and created for television byDennis Lehane, who will also produce.John Leguizamohas also been cast in an undisclosed role in the show.

Taron Egerton stars in the show as lead arson investigator Dave Gudsen, and Emmy Award-nominee Jurnee Smollett will feature as the police detective Michelle Calderone.Rafe Spall, best known for his roles inThe Big ShortandThe Life of Pi, will also star inSmoke, alongsideNtare Guma Mbaho Mwine(The Lincoln Lawyer),Hannah Emily Anderson(X-Men: Dark Phoenix),Anna Chlumsky(Veep),Adina Porter(American Horror Story), andGreg Kinnear(As Good as It Gets).Smokecreator Dennis Lehane is a famous novelist best known for his work onMystic River,Gone Baby Gone, andShutter Island, all of which were adapted into feature films with stars such asTim Robbins,Morgan Freeman, andLeonardo DiCaprioin leading roles. Lehane is also famous for writing episodes ofThe Wire,Boardwalk Empire,The Outsider, andBlack Bird.

What Has Taron Egerton Been in Lately?

Taron Egerton’s latest movie,Carry-On, exploded after its debut on Netflix on its way to becoming one of the most-watched original movies ever for the streamer. Egerton also worked with Apple TV+ in 2023 on the docudramaTetris, which details the life of video game designerHenk Rogersand his mission to secure global rights for the game, which led to tensions with the Soviet Union. Egerton previously worked with Lehane onBlack Bird, the Apple TV+ series that wonPaul Walter Hauseran Emmy and saw Egerton and the lateRay Liottaearn nominations. He’s also famous for his role as Eggsy in theKingsmanfranchise.
