Marvel fans are getting closer and closer toThe Defendersminiseries event, which will unite Netflix’s heroes of Hell’s Kitchen in anAvengers-style event. Complicating the road ahead has been the overwhelming popularity of the standalone series. Marvel and Netflix fast-tracked production onDaredevilseason 2 asJessica Jonesdebuted and earned another season order fairly quickly. Now it looks like the schedule of events we once had in our heads is off even more asThe Defendersis said to film at the end of this year, just asLuke Cagedebuts.
According toThe Independentin the U.K. (viaCS),Charlie Cox, who plays the Man Without Fear, made the revelation while addressing reporters at a Netflix event.

“What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be makingThe Defendersand, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome. I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show. I’m very excited to see how those world’s combine…and interested to see tonally how those shows become one.”
All we know for sure is what was announced in the beginning, that Daredevil, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), andIron Fist(the newly castFinn Jones) will unite to take on a larger threat of some sort. What that is still remains to be seen, thoughDaredevilseason 2 featured a mini-superteam of its own and what happens to Elektra seems to suggest bigger events to come in the future.

Looking at the grander Netflix-Marvel landscape, it seems like we might be waiting longer to seeJessica Jonesseason 2 than we thought. If the streaming platform continues with its two series a year scheme, thenLuke Cagewill debut later this year on the scheduled September 30th,Defenderswill likely drop in 2017 along withIron Fist. UnlessJessica Jonesis squeezed into next year’s schedule (which, at this point, the more then merrier), that would place it for a predicted 2018 release. Again, that’s assuming the current release schedule remains the law of the land, though we’ve already seen how quickly production reacts to the fans.
As for a potential third season ofDaredevil, Cox remarked, “We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three. I certainly don’t know.” He added, “In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that inThe Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”
