Fans just got their first look at the upcomingLanternstelevision series. HBO has released a new image that features the two lead characters from the upcoming DC Studios adventure. Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) will do their best to keep the universe protected from unknown threats. The first image from the highly-anticipated series shows Hal and John walking on a highway wearing regular street clothes. Fans will have to wait a little bit more in order to see the heroes in their iconic outfits based on the pages of DC Comics.

TheLanternstelevision series will introduce John Stewart as an inexperienced member of the titular organization. Hal Jordan will be assigned to be his mentor, as the pair attempt to solve a violent mystery that could change their lives forever. Principal photography for the project has already begun.Lanternsis expected to premiere on Max and on HBO at some point next year.Chris Mundywill serve as the showrunner for the upcoming series, after previously working on stories such asOzarkandCriminal Minds. The fact that DC Studios chose a producer with plenty of experience with grounded crime shows should set the tone forLanterns.

The cast of theLanternstelevision series continues to expand, as the project approaches its eventual launch date.Ulrich Thomsenhas joined the show as Sinestro. The powerful villain was previously portrayed byMark Strongin the theatrical adaptation of the character that quickly earned a bad reputation among the fan base.Lanternswill also featureKelly Macdonaldas Kerry, a sheriff deeply devoted to her community. It remains to be seen how the mystery on Earth will connect the protagonists of the show, a scary antagonist from beyond the stars and a police sheriff from our planet.

The Start of a New Universe

Lanternsis just one of the television titlesJames GunnandPeter Safranare developing for their new DC Universe. The upcoming mystery starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre will join the second season ofPeacemakerand a spinoff centered around Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) as the stories that will flesh out the brand-new franchise. A member of the Green Lanterns Corp, Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), will be introduced inSuperman. The blockbuster will launch the franchise on the big screen this summer, competing at the box office against adventures such asJurassic World: RebirthandThe Fantastic Four: First Steps.
