Editor’s Note: This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2 finale.

By the end ofThe Last of UsSeason 2,Ellie Williams is not in a good place. She’s broken, bloodied, and haunted by what she’s done — and not done. After sailing into a storm, nearly being hanged and gutted by the Seraphites, killing Owen (Spencer Lord) and Mel (Ariela Barer) and then realizing Mel was pregnant, and watching Jesse (Young Mazino) take a bullet to the head,Ellie finally comes face to face with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).

But instead of a grand showdown, she’s left sobbing, helpless, and with a gun pointed straight at her. Cue a gunshot. Smash to black. And then? It’s Abby’s story now. If you’ve playedThe Last of Us Part II, you saw this twist coming. In a radical shift that’s true to the game, the HBO series abruptly cuts to “Seattle: Day One,” rewinding the clock and shifting focus fully to Dever’s Abby. What this means for Ellie — and forBella Ramsey— in Season 3 is still being figured out behind the scenes.

Will Bella Ramsey Be In ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3?

In a new interview with Variety,Ramsey confirmed thatthey’re expecting less screen time in Season 3.“I haven’t seen any scripts, but yes, I do expect that,” they said. “I think that I’m going to be there, but not a whole bunch. We’ve had conversations about that. I sort of have a rough idea of what it’s going to be, but I can’t tell you.”

Series co-creatorsCraig MazinandNeil Druckmannoffered a bit more — but not much. In a May 23 press conference, both played coy about how much of Ellie, Dina (Isabela Merced), Tommy (Gabriel Luna), andJesse we’ll actually see next season. “All I can say is we haven’t seen the last of Kaitlyn Dever, andwe haven’t seen the last of Bella Ramsey, and we haven’t seen the last of Isabela Merced, and we haven’t seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story,” Mazin said, while Druckmann added, “Whether you will see them on screen or not, their presence will be there throughout.”
