Zombie-related television most likely peaked withThe Walking Deadseries as the show threw up several incredible characters and arcs. Based onThe Walking Deadcomic book series, the AMC series went on to introduce several fan-favorite characters, likeLennie James' character, Morgan Jones. Jones might have died in the comics, but remains very much alive in AMC’sWalking Deaduniverse. This is a universe that has killed off other fan-favorite characters, such asSteven Yeun’s Glenn Rhee and seen others strike out with their own spin-offs, likeNorman Reedus' motorcycle-riding character does inThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Having portrayed Morgan in the flagship series and inFear the Walking Deadwhich concluded in 2023, and survived. The survival of James' character has fueled speculation that Morgan might return in one of the franchise’s spin-off shows.

By the timewe bide farewell toFear the Walking Dead, audiences saw Morgan returning to Virginia in hopes of linking up with other survivors. Speaking to ScreenRant in a recent conversation, James revealed that there isn’t any Morgan Jones storyline in the works for any of the ongoing or upcomingWalking Deadoffshoots. James' comments read:

“I haven’t heard anything. That’s the truth of the situation. But also, the truth of the situation is, if I had heard anything, I wouldn’t tell you. But, in all honesty, I haven’t heard anything. I do get asked that question on a regular basis, but as things stand, as of today, I’ve heard nothing.”

There are a few spin-offs where Jones could potentially land within theWalking Deaduniverse. One of them would be the offshoot between archenemies Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) inThe Walking Dead: Dead City. The show recently dropped itsSeason 2 finalebut no decision has been made as regards a potential season. Speaking in another interview, Cohan revealed that she doesn’t believe that Maggie’s story will end in Manhattan, even pitching taking her character overseas andinto Europe and Spain in particular:

“I don’t know if this is what will actually happen, but for me it’s like there is this kind of holistic loop. There is this sort of holistic circle [where] I hope to find ourselves almost back at the beginning in the end for her. I hope, older [and] wiser. But yeah, who knows, it’s all a circle. And maybe we go to France, or Spain, or wherever they are now. Spain.”

Should theWalking Deaduniverse take Maggie to Europe, that sets up a potential crossover with Reedus' Daryl Dixon and Carol (Melissa McBride), who have already made the trip across the pond. Having escaped France in Season 2 ofThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, the pair are seeking a way back to the Commonwealth and their journey is likely totake them through Spain. The franchise has gone international, and universe headScott Gimple, has no intent on slowing down anytime soon. This means Maggie might get to visit zombie-infested Spain, and Morgan might be plugged back in somewhere. On international locations, Gimple says:

“We’re going to see a couple of places. And there’s some really good casting and guest stars — it’s quite a season. I got to go out and visit, and it’s an incredible thing to see the show being made in Europe. It’s just an insane thing and, you know, coming from, doing it as long as I have, starting out as a writer/producer in a little town in Georgia, and now it’s spanning the globe. It’s absolutely crazy. It’s kind of overwhelming.”
