Marvel made quite the good impression with thisrecently released casting announcementforTaika Waititi’sThor: Ragnarok, but official confirmation of the plot has yet to emerge. We know that the title hero, played byChris Hemsworth, will be taking center stage where he’ll be joined by returning heroes Heimdall (Idris Elba) and Odin (Anthony Hopkins) with newcomer Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). Much to fan’s excitement, he’ll also buddy up withMark Ruffalo’sBruce Banner, a.k.a. Hulk.
In a chat withETabout his upcoming filmNow You See Me 2, Ruffalo was asked about his role in the newThormovie, of course. He’s sticking to his line about the film being an “intergalactic buddy road movie with Banner and Thor” but also had some other interesting insights about the incredible cast, now that it’s been announced.

During this sit down with the Hulk-ster, he was careful with his wording:
“I think it will be smashing. You’ll see a lot more Hulk and I think it’ll–”
That’s when co-starWoody Harrelsoninterrupted to ask if the Hulk would be “Hulk-ier” in this next movie, Ruffalo responded:
“The Hulk gets Hulk-ier. The Hulk Hulks out. Hulk-ier and bigger.”
(I hope Ruffalo gets paid a fixed amount every time he says the word “Hulk.") This doesn’t give anything away but it’s a nice bit of reassurance that the Hulk will get his due on the big screen. What the ratio of Hulk-to-Banner screentime is remains to be seen, however, as does the possibility ofPlanet HulkorWorld War Hulkstoryline.
Hulk may walk the line between hero and unpredictable force of mass destruction, but as for Blanchett’s villain of the piece, Ruffalo had this to say:
“She plays the worst of the worst. So evil. She is going to kill us. It’s such a great part she gets to play.”
Blanchett’s role, which sounds like it will be a super-dark version of her performance as Lady Galadriel in theLord of the Ringsmovies, might just be the second-biggest draw to the film (after the Hulk/Thor buddy-up, obviously) as Marvel looks to keep improving the quality of its villains. There’s alotto be excited for, but we have a long wait ahead sinceThor: Ragnarokdoesn’t open until June 13, 2025.
