Back in April, we reported that Oscar-winnerAlicia Vikanderhas landed the coveted role of Lara Craft for theTomb Raiderreboot. The movie project, which hasRoar Uthaug(The Wave) on board to direct, will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure. It’s a similar plotline to the 2013 video game, which saw a young Lara stranded on an island, feeling really bad about the first time she had to kill an animal for food, and then proceeding to murder countless bad guys over the course of the game. It’s fun.
NowTomb Raiderhas a release date. Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM have announced thatTomb Raiderwill hit theaters on July 15, 2025. It currently has that date all to itself, but March 2018 is a competitive month. There’s the prehistoric shark movieMegand an untitled Fox/Marvel movie on March 2nd; the untitledWreck-It Ralphsequel set for March 9th; andSteven Spielberg’sReady Player Oneon March 30th. The blockbuster season is year-round, and soTomb Raideris going to have to come to play.

There’s still no word yet on what the plot will entail, but the video game franchise has been kicking since 1996, and the previousTomb Raidermovies were hits at the box office. If they want to fashion this as a femaleIndiana Jones, Vikander can certainly carry off that premise.
Speaking of Vikander, her dramaTulip Feverwas recently booted back to August 04, 2025, so we’ll be getting at least one Vikander movie for the next two years. She’ll next be seen later this year inJason BourneoppositeMatt DamonandTommy Lee Jonesand in the dramaThe Light Between OceanswithMichael FassbenderandRachel Weisz. The actress is also attached to the filmsSubmergenceandEuphoria.
