The Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s global professional honorary society, recently held the 18th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials, video games and special venues.
ComedianPatton Oswaltserved as host for the 9th time to the more than 1000 guests gathered at the Beverly Hilton to celebrate VFX talent in 25 awards categories.The Lion Kingwas named the photoreal feature winner, garnering three awards.Missing Linkwas named top animated film, winning two awards.The Mandalorianwas named best photoreal episode and garnered two awards, withGame of ThronesandStranger Things 3also winning two awards each.Hennessy: The Seven Worldstopped the commercial field with two wins.

Andy Serkispresented the VES Award for Creative Excellence to acclaimed visual effects supervisorSheena Duggal.Joey Kingpresented the VES Visionary Award to acclaimed director-producer-screenwriterRoland Emmerich. And VFX SupervisorPablo Helmanpresented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Academy, DGA and Emmy Award-winning director-producer-screenwriterMartin Scorsese, accepting via video from New York. Scorsese’sThe Irishmanalso picked up two awards, including Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature. Presenters also included: helmersJ.J.
